RHONDAHL KEITH ADAMS PRESENTS...
2nd Place, TV Pilot
2008 Bayou City
Film Festival
A FRESH, NEW COMEDY WEB SERIES!
Series Concept
Fresh from an internship at an Atlanta radio station, and having recently graduated from Clark A&T University, Kevin Rawlins has his sights set on the big time. When a college friend promises to hook him up with a job in the entertainment industry Kevin decides to leave behind the Dirty South for the West Coast to pursue his dreams in Los Angeles. He convinces his mom to let him go, only there's one problem -- Kevin has no where to stay in L.A.
No where that is, unless his estranged father, Smithy, will let Kevin stay with him until he gets on his feet. Smithy is a man in his 40s, looks like his 30s, and can sometimes act like he's in his 20s. Hes the definition of old school and lives in a time warp, surrounding himself with Janet Jackson memorabilia (his favorite singer) and, in 2009, even owns a stereo system that only plays vinyl and cassettes.
Smithy loves his son, but his blue-collar career at an airline doesn't leave much room for him to support anyone but himself, especially when times get tough. However, at the urging of Kevin's mother, Smithy decides to take his son in under the condition that he'll be on his own soon.
Unfortunately, Kevin's hook-up at the entertainment company falls through and Kevin finds himself stranded in L.A., having to live with his father until something better comes along. But Kevin isn't one to let a bad situation get him down, he's a hyper and aggressive entrepreneur and he'll see his dreams come true if it's the last thing he does. And it just might be.
Meanwhile, Florida Brookins, a landlord so bent on squeezing her tenets she could make Satan himself move out of hell, is determined to constantly raise the rent any way she can. If Kevin doesn't find a steady way to chip in on the rent and stop embroiling Smithy in his crazy get rich quick schemes, well Smithy might just have to kill the boy, provided Ms. Brookins doesn't kill Smithy first in her attempts to win his heart.
Add into the mix Smithy's brother Black, a lazy but over-the-top security guard who knows every game in town; Johnny an ex-car salesman trying to reclaim his former glory by selling gimmicky As Seen on TV Products; Glenda, the sexy, hot woman next door with a hustle all her own and her mind on one thing money; Jesus, a Hispanic handyman and Golden Gloves Champion whos just itching for his next shot at thetitle; Ms. Brookins niece, Eva, a lovely but no-nonsense with high hopes of her own and no interest in Kevin (socially or professionally); and D.J., an aspiring rapper who's whiter than Wonder Bread, who just happens to be Kevins' best friend and you've got apowerful formula for an endless series of misadventures, schemes, complications, and outright foolishness.
